eBay Inc. is proud to announce that for the sixth year in a row, it has received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2014 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people. eBay Inc. joins the ranks of 303 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year in the survey, which is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

“Our perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index is a reflection of our ability to create an environment where people of diverse backgrounds can succeed,” said Beth Axelrod, senior vice president of human resources for eBay Inc. “These results show we are making real progress in creating a highly diverse and inclusive workforce.”

eBay Inc. was one of the original members of the Business Coalition for DOMA Repeal, a group of Fortune 500 and brand name companies that supported ending federal discrimination against legally married gay and lesbian couples.

“Fair and equal treatment of our employees is a core principle of eBay Inc., and we think that our commitment to this principle is one of the main reasons that eBay is a great place to work,” said Jack Christin, Jr., associate general counsel, eBay Inc.  “We were proud to stand with the Human Rights Commission to support the repeal of DOMA and Prop 8 on behalf of all our employees, whether married or not.  Those laws were bad for our employees and bad for our business. The fight against DOMA is not over, and we will continue to support any efforts aimed at providing fair and equal treatment to all of our employees under the law.”

“This will go down in history as the year that corporate support for equality left the boardroom and reached each and every corner of this country,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Not only do fair-minded companies guarantee fair treatment to millions of LGBT employees in all 50 states, but now those same companies are fighting for full legal equality in state legislatures, in the halls of Congress and before the U.S. Supreme Court.”

The 2014 CEI rated 934 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. eBay Inc.’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria resulting in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
